A classic Crystal Beach cottage

Far Niente Blog

May 24, 2009: Congratulations to Terry and Casey at Mabel's on their first anniversary!

We enjoyed a wonderful gourmet pizza at a great "anniversary special" price.  The garlic oil is simply yummy...but even better was chatting with Terry while we waited for our pizza.  All the best for a great season!

May 31, 2009:  Elton Lammie at C.E.D. on Sunday!

What a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  Elton live at C.E.D., a cold drink and some of the best fresh-cut fries around!

June 6, 2009:  Well, it finally seems to be warming up a bit.  The beach was actually very busy on Saturday!

Thanks to everyone who dropped by this past weekend to see Far Niente and to browse at our garage sale.  Sally, it was great to meet you ... It is also great to see the yellow signs everywhere!

We thought we had this wonderful idea where we told people if they bought a coffee, they could keep our mug and all proceeds would go to the Friends of Crystal Beach.

Sadly, not too many people paid for the coffee but we did make a few dollars for FOCB which we will deliver to the meeting this Wednesday!

June 13, 2009: Is summer finally here?

We actually had some great walks on the beach this weekend and truly hope that the warm weather has arrived!  Crystal Chandelier continues to bring us great live jazz and blues and we thank them!  We also enjoyed a wonderful pizza from Bella in Ridgeway.  We can highly recommend them!

June 20, 2009: Get ready for the Art Festival and the Rally next weekend

We are expecting a huge turn out at the Rally to keep Bay Beach lands public.  Please join in next Saturday, June 27 at the end of Schooley Road.  And remember that the CB Art Festival will be held this coming Sunday, June 28 at Waterfront Park.

June 27, 2009: No condos!!!

It was a glorious day weather wise for the Bay Beach Rally. About two hundred people turned out, most to voice their opposition to the Town's proposed partnership with private developer The Molinaro Group. We listened intently and while various vewipoints were represented, most of the concern seemed to centre around the scale of the development.  It seems that most people believe that twin 12 storey condos on the south side of Erie Road simply do not "fit" with the quaint lakefront atmosphere and cottage feel of our litttle town!

July 4, 2009:  Brrr...Canada Day has come and gone and it's still kind of cold!

We had a great Canada Day at the beach as the rain held off for the many get-togethers and family reunions.  Since then it has gotten kind of cold...more like fall than summer, but everything is still wonderful lakeside!

We enjoyed some wonderful pizza from Bella in Ridgeway and we wish them luck as they near their half-year mark at the Ridgeway location.  It is a great place to try something other than cheese and pepperoni...For example, we loved the feta and italian sausage!

August 1, 2009: Is summer finally here?

It is finally warm and sunny and we feel like summer has finally arrived.  The beach is busy and off the beach people are back on the patio...Thanks to Carol at Crystal Chandelier for a fantastic Blues Fest this past week.  What a wonderful time with some great local musicians!

Three cheers to Carol for bringing us some wonderful music and a really good time.

August 15, 2009:  Hurray for summer sun!

Could it actually be that we have had several days of sun and warmth?  Keep your fingers crossed that this sunshine continues...it is what we have been waiting for for months!

September 5, 2009  The Wake and Burial of Summer

Hats off to everyone involved with the End of Summer parade!  Some great enthusiasm was shown by participants and many of the floats were outstanding!  Congratulations to Mr. Truckenbrodt in his role as Grand Marshall and kudos to all the organizers.

November 6, 2009  Beach Party!

Who knew that we'd be having an impromptu party on the beach in November.  We spent the day on the beach with family and friends and the sunshine never quit!  What a great day.  Already dreaming of next summer.
